Need Your Opinion...Please!

This tray is a recent find of mine...it would look great as a side table on one of those tray stands (except I don't have one of those and I don't have room to put it anywhere as a table- did that stop me from buying it...? no!)

So I propped it up in front of the fireplace to act as a "fireplace screen" so to speak. Oh, I have been coveting a gorgeous screen in a catalog for at least 6 months - slight problem is that it is $400 plus additional $100 for shipping & handling. Now my hubby doesn't think spending that kind of money on something that will be purely decorative (he doesn't have the "vision" that I have but thank goodness he keeps me grounded...sigh...) being that our fireplace is gas and has a glass door on the front.

But my eye always go to the black hole that is there and this is Summer! - it needs some brightening up. So until I can "squirrel away" enough money (I am thinking of raiding the loose change jar! anyone feel like rolling pennies with me..? anyone...?) to buy the fireplace screen of my dreams - does this LOOK STUPID...?

Please feel free to offer suggestions!

Hi Laurie! thank you for coming by my new blog today! I'm still very green at this! Oh, I remember you and just love your living room - the yellow walls and red curtains. I loved your chairs. I just love your room. In my opinion, I think the tray looks nice right where you have it! The color looks great in your room and it's a very pretty tray. Well, hope you've had a great Sunday! Shelia ;)

Laurie, I'm back! I wanted to thank you for the tip about the little felt stickies. I didn't think of that! I'll just have to get some of those little stinkers. Shelia ;)

Hi! I think the tray looks really cool in front of the fireplace! I love that you thought "outside the box"! You have such talent!

I love the tray in front of the fire place. I was just wondering what it would look like on a more substantial isle that would bring it up a bit off the floor. Only if you would happen to come across one some day at Home Goods. If you can make a quick stop there one day without the little man who likes to check out the little girls room. I think there was a quick b-line out the door on the last trip the two of you took. LOL. Otherwise I would leave well enough along because it is very pretty! Twin

Hi Laurie! What a great tray! I think it looks great as a screen; it really shows up but still blends well with the rest of the room. When you get tired of it you could always put it on top of one of those inexpensive round tables covered with a pretty cloth and then the tray on top but it might be too big? I like it just fine here I have a gas fireplace with glass too and you are right in summer it is boring without something! Have a great day - Jeannette

Hey Ms. Gilroy, First off let me say a BIG hello to you girl. Second let me say I love the tray in front of the fire place its looks like summer to me and goes great with your beautiful LR girl. I think I might have to steal this idea haha!! I have a black hole also and of course lets don't forget the UGLY BOX BOX (big tv) Which I hate decorating around. But if you got a DH you have a ugly black box. And girl I'll help you roll pennies only you have to bring them here. Hope all the smoke from fires aren't botheing you too much. We have had our share up here on the mountain so far went without power for 25 hours a faith worst than death DH could't watch ugly black box. TC Laurie. Hugs and smiles.

Honestly it looks a little out of place with the other colors of the room. What I am suggesting is maybe use a paint around the rim that is something like the color of the red in the room. Or maybe a little within the tray. It's just my opinion.

Oh Laurie,
I am so happy your back and doing some blogging, but frankly girl, I know what you mean, summer is soooo hard to get any blogging done!...then couple that with three little kids and I don't know how you are able to blog at all!!!
I love the green tray in front of your fireplace, I think it looks great there, and if I was decorating your house that is exactly where I would of placed that beauty! Forget the $400 dollar screen, keep the tray!!!! Beautiful!!!

You have a blessed week, and keep those hungry hooligans in line!!!

XO,
DL

I love it but I agree with my twin who is twintoo 10292. Right away I thought the stand was too small that is holding it up. Otherwise I think it looks great and what a great find :o)

Hi Laurie
I have enjoyed looking at your picture. Your diningroom looks lovely and I can see why you like to sit in those rooms quietly, relaxing and enjoying your tea.
I think the tray looks great in front of the fireplace. I really like that colour of green...green is my favourite colour.
I like your picture arrangements over the 2 smaller tables. I'll have to remember that. I also REALLY love your tea cart. I've missed out on a couple of them myself when I've been at an auction. I will keep trying.
Have a lovely day.
